Splendor
“Arise! Shine! For your light arrives!
The splendor of the Lord shines on you!
For, look, darkness covers the earth
and deep darkness covers the nations,
but the Lord shines on you;
his splendor appears over you.
Nations come to your light,
kings to your bright light.
Isaiah 60:1-3

Live in the light
Now this is the gospel message we have heard from him and announce to you: God is light, and in him there is no darkness
at all. If we say we have fellowship with him and yet keep on walking in the darkness, we are lying and not practicing the
truth. But if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus his
Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we do not bear the guilt of sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in
us. But if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous, forgiving us our sins and cleansing us from all
unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar and his word is not in us. (My little children, I am writing
these things to you so that you may not sin.) But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the
righteous One, and he himself is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for our sins but also for the whole world.
1 John 1:5-2:2

May you have lifelong strength
The bars of your gates will be made of iron and bronze,
and may you have lifelong strength.
There is no one like God, O Jeshurun,
who rides through the sky to help you,
on the clouds in majesty.
The everlasting God is a refuge,
and underneath you are his eternal arms;
he has driven out enemies before you,
and has said, “Destroy!”
Israel lives in safety,
the fountain of Jacob is quite secure,
in a land of grain and new wine;
indeed, its heavens rain down dew.
You have joy, Israel! Who is like you?
You are a people delivered by the Lord,
your protective shield
and your exalted sword.
May your enemies cringe before you;
may you trample on their backs.
Deuteronomy 33:25-29

The Lord supper
For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night in which he was betrayed took
bread, and after he had given thanks he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of
me.” In the same way, he also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, every
time you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For every time you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s
death until he comes.
For this reason, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and
blood of the Lord. A person should examine himself first, and in this way let him eat the bread and drink of the cup. For the
one who eats and drinks without careful regard for the body eats and drinks judgment against himself. That is why many of
you are weak and sick, and quite a few are dead. But if we examined ourselves, we would not be judged. But when we are
judged by the Lord, we are disciplined so that we may not be condemned with the world.
1 Corinthians 11:23-32

To follow Jesus
Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone wants to become my follower, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and
follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. For what does it
benefit a person if he gains the whole world but forfeits his life? Or what can a person give in exchange for his life? For the
Son of Man will come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will reward each person according to what he
has done. I tell you the truth, there are some standing here who will not experience death before they see the Son of Man
coming in his kingdom.
Matthew 16:24-28

The triumphant Jesus
And even though you were dead in your transgressions and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, he nevertheless made you
alive with him, having forgiven all your transgressions. He has destroyed what was against us, a certificate of
indebtedness expressed in decrees opposed to us. He has taken it away by nailing it to the cross. Disarming the rulers and
authorities, he has made a public disgrace of them, triumphing over them by the cross.
Colossians 2:13-15

Resist the devil
So submit to God. But resist the devil and he will flee from you.
James 4:7

A house built on rock
“Everyone who hears these words of mine and does them is like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the
flood came, and the winds beat against that house, but it did not collapse because it had been founded on rock. Everyone
who hears these words of mine and does not do them is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain fell, the
flood came, and the winds beat against that house, and it collapsed; it was utterly destroyed!”
Matthew 7:24-27

Under Gods protection
We know that everyone fathered by God does not sin, but God protects the one he has fathered, and the evil one cannot
touch him. We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. And we know that the Son
of God has come and has given us insight to know him who is true, and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ.
This one is the true God and eternal life. Little children, guard yourselves from idols.
1 John 5:18-21

Weapons of light
The night has advanced toward dawn; the day is near. So then we must lay aside the works of darkness, and put on the
weapons of light. Let us live decently as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and
sensuality, not in discord and jealousy. Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh to arouse
its desires.
Romans 13:12-14

Endurance during trials
We do not give anyone an occasion for taking an offense in anything, so that no fault may be found with our ministry. But as
God’s servants, we have commended ourselves in every way, with great endurance, in persecutions, in difficulties, in
distresses, in beatings, in imprisonments, in riots, in troubles, in sleepless nights, in hunger, by purity, by knowledge, by
patience, by benevolence, by the Holy Spirit, by genuine love, by truthful teaching, by the power of God, with weapons of
righteousness both for the right hand and for the left, through glory and dishonor, through slander and praise; regarded as
impostors, and yet true; as unknown, and yet well-known; as dying and yet – see! – we continue to live; as those who are
scourged and yet not executed; as sorrowful, but always rejoicing, as poor, but making many rich, as having nothing, and
yet possessing everything.
2 Corinthians 6:3-10

Tounges and prophesy
I wish you all spoke in tongues, but even more that you would prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one
who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets so that the church may be strengthened.
1 Corinthians 14:5

Angels as servants
Are they not all ministering spirits, sent out to serve those who will inherit salvation?
Hebrews 1:14

The breastplate of faith
For you all are sons of the light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of the darkness. So then we must not sleep
as the rest, but must stay alert and sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night and those who get drunk are drunk at
night. But since we are of the day, we must stay sober by putting on the breastplate of faith and love and as a helmet our
hope for salvation. For God did not destine us for wrath but for gaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. He died for
us so that whether we are alert or asleep we will come to life together with him. Therefore encourage one another and build
up each other, just as you are in fact doing.
1 Thessalonians 5

Catching people
But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Go away from me, Lord, for I am a sinful
man!” For Peter and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish that they had taken, and so were James and
John, Zebedee’s sons, who were Simon’s business partners. Then Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you
will be catching people.” So when they had brought their boats to shore, they left everything and followed him.
Luke 5:8-11
16
Fishers of people
As he was walking by the Sea of Galilee he saw two brothers, Simon (called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net
into the sea (for they were fishermen). He said to them, “Follow me, and I will turn you into fishers of people.” They left their
nets immediately and followed him.
Matthew 4:18-20
17
Overcome evil with good
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
Romans 12:21
18
Be conscientious
Be conscientious about how you live and what you teach. Persevere in this, because by doing so you will save both yourself
and those who listen to you.
1 Timothy 4:16
19
Know if the teaching is from God
So Jesus replied, “My teaching is not from me, but from the one who sent me. If anyone wants to do God’s will, he will know
about my teaching, whether it is from God or whether I speak from my own authority.
John 7:16-17

I have food to eat that you know nothing about
Meanwhile the disciples were urging him, “Rabbi, eat something.” But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you know
nothing about.” So the disciples began to say to one another, “No one brought him anything to eat, did they?” Jesus said to
them, “My food is to do the will of the one who sent me and to complete his work. Don’t you say, ‘There are four more
months and then comes the harvest?’ I tell you, look up and see that the fields are already white for harvest! The one who
reaps receives pay and gathers fruit for eternal life, so that the one who sows and the one who reaps can rejoice
together. For in this instance the saying is true, ‘One sows and another reaps.’ I sent you to reap what you did not work for;
others have labored and you have entered into their labor.”
John 4:31-38
21
God orders his angels
For he will order his angels
to protect you in all you do.
They will lift you up in their hands,
so you will not slip and fall on a stone.
Psalms 91:11-12
22
Subdue and trample
You will subdue a lion and a snake;
you will trample underfoot a young lion and a serpent.
Sal 91:13
23
Imitate me as I imitate Christ
Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ.
1 Corinthians 11:1
24
Think about these things
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of respect, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is
lovely, whatever is commendable, if something is excellent or praiseworthy, think about these things. And what you learned
and received and heard and saw in me, do these things. And the God of peace will be with you.
Philippians 4:8-9
25
Good days
Do you want to really live?
Would you love to live a long, happy life?
Then make sure you don’t speak evil words
or use deceptive speech!
Turn away from evil and do what is right!
Strive for peace and promote it!
Psalms 34:12-14
26
Life by the word of God
But he answered, “It is written, ‘Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
Matthew 4:4
27
Bind and release
“I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will have been bound in heaven, and whatever you release on earth will
have been released in heaven.
Matthew 18:18
28
Answer to prayer
Again, I tell you the truth, if two of you on earth agree about whatever you ask, my Father in heaven will do it for you. For
where two or three are assembled in my name, I am there among them.”
Matthew 18:19-20
29
Obedience better than offering
Then Samuel said,
“Does the Lord take pleasure in burnt offerings and sacrifices
as much as he does in obedience?
Certainly, obedience is better than sacrifice;
paying attention is better than the fat of rams.
1 Samuel 15:22
30
Live in security
But the one who listens to me will live in security,
and will be at ease from the dread of harm.
Proverbs 1:33

Healing and refreshment
Do not be wise in your own estimation;
fear the Lord and turn away from evil.
This will bring healing to your body,
and refreshment to your inner self.
Proverbs 3:7-8
