Promise 1: Salvation from sin

She will give birth to a son and you will name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.

MATTHEW 1:21

Promise 2: Spirit baptism

“I baptize you with water, for repentance, but the one coming after me is more powerful than I am – I am not worthy to carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

MATTHEW 3:11

I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

MARK 1:8 

John answered them all, “I baptize you with water, but one more powerful than I am is coming – I am not worthy to untie the strap of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

LUKE 3:16

And look, I am sending you what my Father promised. But stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.

LUKE 24:49 

And I did not recognize him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ʻThe one on whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining – this is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.ʼ

JOHN 1:33 

On the last day of the feast, the greatest day, Jesus stood up and shouted out, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me, and let the one who believes in me drink. Just as the scripture says, ʻFrom within him will flow rivers of living water.ʼ” (Now he said this about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were going to receive, for the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.)

JOHN 7:37-39

For John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.

ACTS 1:5

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the farthest parts of the earth.

blood and fire and clouds of smoke.

The sun will be changed to darkness

and the moon to blood

before the great and glorious day of the Lord comes.

And then everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.ʼ

ACTS 2:17-21

Peter said to them, “Repent, and each one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and your children, and for all who are far away, as many as the Lord our God will call to himself.”

ACTS 2:38-39 

And I remembered the word of the Lord, as he used to say, ʻJohn baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.ʼ

ACTS 11:16

in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham would come to the Gentiles, so that we could receive the promise of the Spirit by faith.

PROMISE 3: Life by the Word 

But he answered, “It is written, ʻMan does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.ʼ”

PROMISE 4: Protection by angels 

and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down. For it is written, ʻHe will command his angels concerning youʼ and ʻwith their hands they will lift you up, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.ʼ

for it is written, ʻHe will command his angels concerning you, to protect you,ʼ and ʻwith their hands they will lift you up, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.ʼ

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to them.

“Not everyone who says to me, ʻLord, Lord,ʼ will enter into the kingdom of heaven – only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.

who comforts us in all our troubles so that we may be able to comfort those experiencing any trouble with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

And our hope for you is steadfast because we know that as you share in our sufferings, so also you will share in our comfort.

But God, who encourages the downhearted, encouraged us by the arrival of Titus.

PROMISE 8: Earth as an inheritance 

“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

PROMISE 9: Filling of righteousness 

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.

MATTHEW 5:6

PROMISE 10: Mercy 

“Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

MATTHEW 5:7

from generation to generation he is merciful to those who fear him.

LUKE 1:50

Think of how we regard as blessed those who have endured. You have heard of Jobʼs endurance and you have seen the Lordʼs purpose, that the Lord is full of compassion and mercy.
